Dr. Stefano Brizzolara (VT i-Ship Lab)• Designed, verified, and validated a prototype personal hydrofoil craft for the Office of Naval Research (ONR).>> Developed a feasibility study (scenario analysis) using MATLAB, integrating multiple low-fidelity models influenced by high-fidelity Star-CCM+ models. The iterative process between Star-CCM+ and MATLAB models led to the prototype design being developed in SOLIDWORKS.>> Sourced COTS components for prototype craft, built main hydrofoil using 3D printing, and assembled main platform.>> Validation of built craft involved 3D scanning the COTS hulls used for the platform and integrating the scan into the SOLIDWORKS model for final Star-CCM+ verification>> Delivered a base prototype with associated low-fidelity and high-fidelity models, a feasibility study, to ONR stakeholders on time resulting in an additional round of funding for the lab.• Supervised and mentored 6 undergraduate students.
