I spent my childhood training horses and at 17 swapped school to become an assistant guide at OffBeat Safaris, a horseback safari operation in Kenya. I arrived in Argentina in 2004, aged 20, and worked training horses in different ranches across the country before becoming a guide for Ride Andes, a travel company that organises long rides in South America. In 2007, I became the head guide at Estancia El Churquí, a ranch in Tucumán province, northwest Argentina. In 2009, I setup MacDermott's Argentina, a travel company specialising in the horse, gaucho and ranch cultures of Argentina. We have since evolved into an adventure travel company known for organising logistically complicated, high-end adventure trips around Argentina.Our office is in Buenos Aires though I continue to be the head guide and travel extensively round Argentina, hosting our most important trips and continually building on our knowledge of the region.In 2012, we organised a radio documentary for Radio 4 and have since worked on a variety of fixing projects, including two photo-shoots for Harrod’s Magazine and a documentary in the northwestern region of Argentina.The unofficial motto of the company is never say no. Whatever the request, as long as it doesn’t require us to break the law, we figure out a way to organise it; because of this we have become highly adaptable and built a wide net of contacts right across the country, through which there is very little we cannot organise.I am a very confident salesman of Argentina, if a client has decided they are doing a trip to Argentina and they speak to me, it is almost inevitable that we organize their trip. This confidence comes from a very deep knowledge of the country, built from years of living, working and travelling around the region. There are few non-Argentines who know the country as well as I do and I am constantly looking for ways to build on this knowledge.
