I am a senior lawyer with more than 11 years’ experience in private practice. My current specialisation is New Zealand tax law, but I occasionally advise on related areas of law, such as trust law, FATCA / CRS and other areas of law impacting private clients. Until mid-2018 I had a dual specialisation as a tax lawyer and private client / private wealth lawyer.In terms of my tax law, I have extensive experience in the following areas:M&A tax: Providing tax structuring advice, drafting and negotiating transaction documents and managing and carrying out tax due diligence.Taxation of financing transactions: Drafting and negotiating financing documents, preparing “tax neutrality” opinions and providing advice on the tax treatment of all types of financing transactions (securitisations, debt issuances and corporate lending). Tax advice: Providing bespoke advice on corporate transactions and property transactions. Private client tax: Advising numerous inbound migrant HNWIs on the tax implications of migrating to New Zealand, tax residence and transitional residence issues.IRD confirmations: Seeking binding rulings and non-binding confirmations from the New Zealand IRD. Tax policy: Submitting on tax law changes. Tax compliance: Preparing income tax returns and GST returns and other tax types of tax compliance.
