My proudest achievement in energy is having co-founded what has now become, arguably, the most impactful grid consultancy in the UK. Roadnight Taylor is both independent and specialist, and is dedicated to achieving timely grid connections on the GB’s electricity networks. Our small team of elite engineers, the Connectologists®, enable clients’ mission critical projects by toppling the most stubborn connections barriers. We have been incredibly lucky to have brought together what I believe to be the leading combination of connections specialists that the UK has to offer. As well as delivering outcomes that can be valued in the tens and hundreds of £millions, they freely share their extraordinary know-how – in podcasts, webinars, videos and explainers – for the greater good of society as a whole. Whilst our select client-base is now dominated by corporate giants such as Centrica, Amazon, Octopus, National Grid, Diageo, British Sugar and Aldi, Lucy and I started Roadnight Taylor to help landowners to achieve greater success in large-scale energy schemes. And they did – so much so that some of the UK’s leading renewables developers soon asked us to extend the expertise that we were amassing to them. This opened up the business to look more like it does today. We have pivoted successfully to helping energy investors who are acquiring, constructing and optimising portfolios, we’re helping some of the country’s largest energy users to decarbonise their operations in the face of a creaking electricity infrastructure – and we’re helping local and devolved governments to place-make for communities on weaker parts of the network.
