Postdoctoral Researcher
CurrentProf. Wilson’s Infectious Disease Genomics group are at the forefront of the development and application of approaches for infectious disease genomics, including genome-wide association studies and expression analyses for understanding the genetic basis of observable differences in important microbiological traits including disease severity and drug resistance. They have several projects generating microbial DNA sequencing data, RNA sequencing data, high performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry data, as well as human genotyping data. These projects are focused on the organisms Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. We are engaged in prospective sampling of microbiological isolates from clinical infections at scale from NHS diagnostic labs in Oxford, with a view to expand this to other sites across the country. I work closely with the wider research team to generate data in the lab, including phenotypic assays in collaboration with the senior postdoctoral researcher within the team, and phenotypically characterise a bank of carriage and infection associated strains for comparative analysis. Additionally, I am pursuing an ambitious sampling study, liaising with clinical microbiological diagnostics labs in Oxford and across the country to create a large library of clinically derived bacteria.
