Humanitarian | Social Entrepreneur | International Development Advocate | Hugh Evans is the CEO of Global Citizen. At 14, Australian-born Evans spent the night in a Manila slum. The harsh realities of his hosts’ lives motivated Evans to challenge the status quo of extreme poverty. Following a trip to South Africa in 2002 as World Vision's inaugural Youth Ambassador, Evans worked on the Make Poverty History campaign and helped stage the Make Poverty History Concert (fronted by Pearl Jam and Bono). In 2011, under the mantle of the Global Poverty Project (launched 2008), Evans co-founded Global Citizen, and with it, the Global Citizen Festival -- a free, ticketed event requiring fans to perform anti-poverty actions in exchange for entry, recruiting millions into the war against global poverty. In 2015 alone, Global Citizens took 2.3 million actions, helping to secure commitments from governments around the world that are set to affect more than 210 million lives.

CeoGlobalcitizen Sep 2009 - PresentNew York, New York, UsOur vision is a world without extreme poverty by 2030. The Global Poverty Project (GPP) is an advocacy organization working in partnership with key NGOs, business leaders, world leaders and global citizens in its efforts to build the largest movement of people taking actions and calling on governments to support policies that would significantly impact the world’s poor. GPP organizes massive global campaigns including Live Below the Line and the annual Global Citizen Festival as catalysts in this movement. Over the last four years, global citizens have taken nearly 3 million actions in the fight against extreme poverty. These actions have resulted in 87 commitments and policy announcements, including cash commitments valued at over US $18.3 billion. The Global Poverty Project has offices in New York, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.Global Citizen is GPP’s content and campaigning arm where people can learn about and take action on the world’s biggest issues. Global Citizen works in partnership with and supports some of the most effective organizations working to end extreme poverty. Committed to providing the most interesting stories, effective actions and powerful campaigns, Global Citizen aims to unlock the power of every individual to play his or her part in the movement to end extreme poverty in the next 15 years. We believe that when an organized, critical mass of individuals in society aspire to the values of Global Citizen, and when they are equipped to take meaningful action, we can change the policies and practices that contribute to keeping people in extreme poverty. -
FounderThe Oaktree Foundation 2002 - 2008The Oaktree Foundation is an aid and development organisation run by volunteers under the age of 26. We're young people working together to end global poverty. We believe that education is the most powerful force we have to change the world. Oaktree takes action by partnering with developing communities to make educational opportunities a reality. Oaktree does three things:We fundraise for our projects in developing countries around the world. People of all ages donate, run events or get sponsored to help break the poverty cycle in places like East Timor, by providing life changing educational opportunities. We advocate for justice. We create and run eye catching education campaigns in Australia, raising community awareness about global poverty and our ability to end it. We then directly engage with all political leaders, calling on Australia to do our fair share to end global poverty by giving 0.7% of our Gross National Income in foreign aid. We help young people lead this movement for social change. As young people we aren't constrained by the cynicism, expectations or societal restrictions that can limit our ability to achieve real change. We embrace and celebrate our idealism and passion - and help young people harness those by providing the training, education and opportunities needed to end global poverty.
