After a career of over 40 years as a solicitor, mainly in the field of dispute resolution, I retired at the end of August 2017. I now concentrate solely on mediation in which I have been a firm believer since taking part in my first mediation as a solicitor in 1997. I have an approachable, facilitative style encouraging mediating parties to work together towards a mutually acceptable solution, while at the same time using my experience to encourage them to undertake a realistic appraisal of the strengths and weaknesses of their respective cases. I have mediated a broad range of disputes including commercial and employment contracts, a building partnership dispute and a contested probate, reflecting my experience as a solicitor when I handled diverse disputes, especially commercial, competition, contentious trusts and probate, professional negligence, property matters and solicitors' costs issues. I was President of the London Solicitors Litigation Association from 1998 - 2000 at the time of the Woolf Reforms, which encouraged and incentivised litigants to mediate, and managing partner of Gordon Dadds, with which firm I spent the greater part of my career, from 2003 to 2013.
