Hugh Nathanial Halpern is the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director, the agency’s chief executive officer. The agency is responsible for publishing and printing information for the three branches of the Federal Government. GPO operates as a business with approximately $900 million in annual revenue and more than 1,600 employees, producing the Congressional Record, the Federal Register, manufacturing U.S. passports, and publishing government information on its state-of-the-art govinfo.gov information repository. His is focused on modernizing GPO's operations and helping its customers more easily access the agency's services.In his prior career, he served as the chief floor strategist and troubleshooter for the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the senior House Republican leadership. For more than a decade in the senior leadership staff and 30 years in the House, he developed and executed legislative strategies that allowed the Republican majority in the House to achieve its priorities. He is a veteran committee staffer in the House, having successfully served half-a-dozen different committees in both policy development and procedural roles as well as majority and minority Republican leadership. He has a proven track record of successfully leading teams to achieve results against difficult odds.The publication Roll Call included him on its list of 50 Most Powerful Congressional Staffers 14 times, and National Journal featured him in the November 2010 issue profiling “The New Power Players,” as well as the introduction to their “Hill People” publication in June 2012.
