The three main project topics included model development for a dynamic vehicle simulation tool, administration, support and development for a data management tool, and race strategy tool development and support. For the vehicle simulation tool, I was implementing new Simulink models, as well as updating existing models, that represented various vehicle subsystems. Another primary responsibility was ensuring the tool's pre- and post-processing code in Matlab ensured compatibility across different vehicle data definitions and multiple vehicle types. This role also required taking on managerial roles to handle cross-department issues regarding model requirements, implementation and testing due to the re-use of models in different simulation environments. I also improved processes around the model development itself, tool validation and releases resulting in faster release cycles. For the data management tool, I was the primary responsible for the administration, support and development of related systems and tools. This was using primarily Python to implement the user processes and functionality to support the racing, testing and simulation use-cases required. Through detailed interactions with the ISV, and intensive interactions with various departments, we achieved a vast increase in reliability, performance and user confidence in the data management tool. I was also responsible for the correctness of all data import tools and their system interface. For the race strategy tool development and support, I supported the customer in development a new Python-based tool for the FoE Gen2 regulations change to help guide their on-track strategy decisions. This also involved remote test and race support for multiple seasons. I also supported sponsored Formula Student teams by running vehicle dynamics and vehicle testing workshops. Show less

The combination of this software allowed for accurate tire models to be developed and then imported into vehicle dynamic simulation to increase accuracy and clarity between vehicles. For the Formula Student competition with a known quantitative scoring method, the inclusion of multiple dynamic events increases the complexity of concept development. To simplify the most important parameters in a vehicle, the sensitivity of various vehicle parameters to competition points was created and ranked. From this, the most important parameters could be prioritized and consequently used to improve other competition aspects, such as the Design and Cost events.Accomplishments● Creation of first documented and quantified concept development process● Integrating myself into a German team culture, including increasing professional German automotive language knowledge● Attaining valuable design process knowledge within a world class Formula Student team Show less
