Primarily drilling is for the design of rock reinforcement, foundations and ground support systems. Clients I have worked for include Jacobs, AMEY, AECOM, AMEC Foster Wheeler, Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald, BAM Nuttell, Network rail, Manx utility authority and the British Government.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:• Drill rig logistics (primarily rotary and cable percussion).• Borehole planning with cable and utilities avoidance considerations.• Soil and rock logging of trenches, inspection pits and drill hole core in accordance with BS5930 and Eurocode 7 to determine engineering characteristics.• Compiling precondition and postcondition site reports.• Extracting disturbed and undisturbed bulk, contamination, WAC (waste acceptance criteria) samples.• Overseeing standard penetration tests, cone penetration tests and piston sampling.• Obtaining shear stress reading using hand vanes and borehole shear vanes.• Rock mass assessment and developing rock mass characterisation. Conducting in situ CBR tests using dynamic cone penetration. Calculating rock quality designation for rock and shear strength of rock.• Supervising borehole piezometric installations. Groundwater monitoring including taking water samples, monitoring water levels, performing variable, constant head and packer testing. Data logger (DIVER) installation and monitoring. Conducting Soak away testing.• Phase 1 site reconnaissance and environmental assessments.• Ensuring works are carried out safely.
