I’m a businessmen and entrepreneurial electrical engineer; I have been Managing Director of my own companies since graduating from university over 45 years ago. I lead development, manufacture, funding and commercialisation of products; I am hugely motivated by taking inventions through this process and then seeing the products used in society. Prior to 2011, I was engaged primarily in developing engineering products for various international markets. The tubular linear motor, which I invented and patented worldwide, has not been superceded and continues to be used in numerous markets and applications. My company, Linear Technology then Drives Ltd, set up by me to commercialise the motor, received the national Millenium Product Award (2000) and UK Product of the Year award (1990). Since then, I have taken various engineering technologies from concept through manufacture, investment and production phases, with ultimate commercial application as the clear objective. I saw the opportunity to harness a sustainable resource using ground-breaking technology, and formed GreenSpur to research and develop a new Direct Drive (DD) Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) for the wind turbine market. The business has grown rapidly and has significant potential; we have world leading electromagnetic expertise, R&D and prototyping skills, long standing R&D relationships with leading universities. I have an extensive knowledge of patents and global patent prosecution. I’m proud to be leading the talented and dedicated team that is engaged in research, development and design of what we expect will represent a game-changer in renewables. We are making tremendous progress in this exciting area, with fundamental breakthroughs and numerous international patent filings arising from our work to date. Outside work, I have a lifelong love of music, play the piano and conduct a local choir. For relaxation, it's gym workouts and family.
