Phd Candidate: Microwave To Telecom Wavelength Transduction

• Lead all facets of my thesis project from designing the experiment to writing up results for publication• Assisted other students in laboratory group with their experiments • Collaborated internationally to bring techniques, knowledge, and practical skills to our lab• Focused on developing experimental techniques and knowledge in telecom optics & photonics, microwave engineering, and quantum systemsMy thesis project involves research towards developing a microwave to optical wavelength transducer using a mechanical intermediary. Wavelength transducers have broad implications for fundamental physics research in the microwave domain, and are critical to the development of an internet for quantum computers. Highlights of my graduate research• I demonstrated the first evidence of cooling a piezoelectric gallium arsenide optomechanical crystals to the motional ground state using a dilution refrigerator (Published in Ramp, et al., Physical Review Letters 123 (9), 093603, https://arxiv.org/abs/1812.09417) • I developed a prototype microwave-to-optical wavelength converter capable of transducing information from a microwave cavity to an optical cavity (Ramp, et al., Applied Physics Letters 116, 174005, https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0002160)• In addition to my thesis project, I have been involved in a number of experiments in the Davis Lab.
