About Hugh Ronzani

I am passionate about the most fundamental and transcendent form of human artistic expression — music. I have worked extensively in live music situations with a focus on period music, honing my skills through collaborations with eminent and award-winning artists including Paul Dyer, Shunske Sato, Emma Black, Elinor Frey, Yaron Lifschitz, Samuel Mariño, Michael Scott-Mitchell, and Alana Valentine. As a composer, arranger, sound designer, bass, podcaster, and music librarian, I seek to advocate for, protect, and evolve contemporary and historically-informed performance practice.Without wanting to harp on about me, I wear many hats, am always curious, eager to learn, and open-minded. I think outside the box and am always brimming with ideas. Ask anyone that knows me, I'm not afraid of getting stuck into hard work! I enjoy finding creative and functional ways to get music on stage to help enhance any performance experience, whether it be with custom leather vocal scores or a 1950s 'Il Globo' inspired newspaper.At the moment, I am in charge of the most important collection of early music in the Southern Hemisphere. So, if you are looking for something to do that may actually change your life and world view, come hear the Brandenburg perform live as though Johann Sebastian Bach's ink was still drying ... or Vivaldi's ink, or Handel's, or Mozart's, or Boccherini's, or Francesca Caccini's, or Hildegard von Bingen's, or many other composers' ink that you may never have heard of. That's why we're here after all, to protect and promote important musical heritage. :o)

Since its debut performance in 1990, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra has become a leading voice for live performance and artistic collaboration in the Australian cultural landscape. It is the only professional, full-time historically informed performance ensemble in the country and holds the largest and most valuable early music collection in the Southern Hemisphere.MY ROLE:* Caring for the largest and most valuable early music collection in the Southern Hemisphere.* Accessioning, deaccessioning, scanning and cataloguing the Brandenburg’s physical and digital music resources, including recordings.* Preparing music scores/parts: transcribing (from facsimiles of manuscripts); typesetting and formatting; printing; binding; adding bowings and other markings (notably, basso continuo figures).* Budgeting, purchasing and hiring of printed music from publishers.* Supporting external stakeholders, including guest artists, audio engineers and video directors (score reading and cueing), stage directors, writers, and other collaborators.* Supporting the Artistic Director (repertoire) and the Marketing and Artistic teams.* Writing and proof-reading program notes, timelines and other text.* Cutting and editing recordings and other audio for music trailers.
