Ms. Huma A. Chughtai is An International Human Rights Law, Sharia, Rule of Law and Gender specialist. With over 35 years of professional standing, she has cross sectoral professional experience and key expertise in legal, judicial and police reform, parliamentary strengthening and women’s political participation, human rights, gender mainstreaming, women, peace and security, Disaster Risk Reduction/Management with special focus on Vulnerable Groups, and Climate Change. She has served in various key positions at the government as well as development sector. Most of her work in the government has been with the National Assembly of Pakistan where she served from mid to senior level positions for over a decade including heading the Research Section as Director Research she served as secretary to five Standing Committees including Women Development & Social Welfare, Health, and the Special Committee of the Parliament on Water Resources. Besides, she has constantly provided technical assistance to the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus in the National Assembly of Pakistan since its inception in 2008. In the Development Sector, she has been working for over a decade in the realm of Legal, Judicial, Parliamentary, Gender and Police Reforms as well as in the arena of women, peace and security. She recently completed here eighteen month contract as Senior Advisor (Peace & Stability) supporting Pakistan’s National Security Advisor in bringing gender perspectives to the subject. She is an alumni of University of Nottingham, UK, from where she earned her LL.M degree in International Law of Human Rights, as well of International Islamic University, Islamabad, from where she secured her degree in LL.B (Law & Sharia) as one of the torch bearer pupil. Ms. Chughtai has Internationally accredited Civil/Commercial Mediation Certification from ADR/ODR International. An Advocate High Court, she is essentially a judicial educator, governance structural reformer, a peacebuilder and a legal researcher. Apart from being Advocate Hugh Court, Ms. Chughtai has a number of international certifications to her credit and has extensively travelled across continents. Currently, she is serving as a Member Parliament in the National Assembly of Pakistan since April 2024. In addition to being fluent in English language, Ms. Huma Chughtai can also speak French and Arabic languages.
