I was given the exclusive opportunity to learn the entire manufacturing process of technical backpacks and equipment through a summer internship with Dong-In Entech CO., LTD in the Philippines. As factory manager intern, I learned the challenges of managing eight uniquely different sub-company factories while effectively balancing my autonomous roll in collaboration with sample rooms, planning/merchandising teams and production line supervisors to learn more about their jobs and responsibilities. Each week I transitioned between the factories to broaden my understanding of supply chain, inventory management and the complexities of product creation. Familiarizing myself with the structure of each company allowed me to identify where inefficiencies may stem from, examples include transit times with suppliers and bottlenecks within the production line. Utilizing my time and resources, I designed and developed two technical backpacks (total of six salesmen samples) and multiple outdoor accessories as well as oversaw the production of an RF-welded pack. Each project included technical illustrations, fully specified tech packs and comprehensive bill of materials. Through this experience, I've learned how to work within cross-functional teams, incorporating the information related to production line manufacturing and product sequencing, while juggling the responsibility of development and product line manager of multiple projects withing several factories. My time and experience with this opportunity will inform how I approach aspects of future design and project management roles.
