With over 30 years experience in the development of computer systems and software, I have worked with telephone systems, with financial systems and with Business Intelligence. A common theme of my work has been concerned with the design and creation of new computer systems, and since 1995 I have concentrated on Internet based systems. I have worked for or consulted for companies such as British Telecom, Bank of America, Verifone and in recent years with Facebook and Netflix.I hold several patents in Internet Commerce.In 1986, I spent 2 years working as the computer specialist at Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Lab in Hawaii. I developed sound generation systems for use in language reception and cognition studies with Bottlenose Dolphins. I also enjoyed swimming often with Spinner Dolphins in the ocean off the leeward coast of Oahu and regard these experiences as some of the highlights of my life. Since this time I have had an interest in recording and analyzing dolphin sounds using computer software, something which in the 1980’s was a difficult and challenging task.In recent years, my experience at Facebook and Netflix has enabled me to think differently about the systems I am building. At the same time technology has developed to the point where cetacean sounds can be processed and categorized in real time. So my interest in dolphin acoustics has re-emerged and has resulted in a new software creation which is now under development and being tested with recent acoustic recordings of dolphins and whales. My plan is to release low cost and free applications which will categorize cetacean sounds both on the iMac and the iPad platforms.I do consulting work in Business Intelligence and system integration. I am currently active in building systems for processing and categorizing dolphin and whale sounds using python.
