I'm Hunter Beattie and I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's Degree of Science in Public Relations from the University of Florida. I have long term goals of remaining in the field following my extensive media background in high school, and I'm looking forward to what I will learn and how it will help me grow as an employee and as a person. In terms of former employment, I worked a hostess job at a popular restaurant in my hometown in order to save for college and take some financial pressure off my parents. In doing so, I became more independent and developed valuable management and leadership skills, as well as learning how to budget money using the income I was making. After a year of employment, I was promoted to a waitress position. I trained incoming new employees, maintained a healthy and constructive working environment with my peers and customers, and ultimately gained a new sense of self. Although I do not see a future in a restaurant, this experience was super important to my personal growth. On campus I write for Rowdy, a student-run magazine. Through the articles I write for the print issue, I get to express myself, share information with the student body and improve my writing skills across the board. I am in constant communication with the executive directors of the magazine to consult on topic ideas, discuss the timely meeting of deadlines and brainstorm edits for my article and others. Beyond the magazine, my time spent in pursuit of my bachelor's degree has given me critical experience and information to succeed in the PR field. I decided to earn a minor in Communication Studies to strengthen my foundational skills and learn more about how to effectively communicate and problem-solve.Outside of academics, I am also a part of the Kappa Delta Sorority on campus where I have assumed the roles of Photoshop chair and PR chair. Within these roles, I am responsible for creating and designing social media graphics and consulting with our Marketing Vice President regarding the content of our posts as well as our social media posting schedule. I believe my experience working in many different sectors of PR and social media have helped prepare me for a career in the future.
