I’m Hunter Behrens, an active duty Captain and Intelligence Officer in the United States Air Force. I started my career as a Russian Linguist and quickly advanced in proficiency, which enabled me to be selected to become a full-time Russian interpreter for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. As an interpreter and Arms Control Inspector, I completed more than 25 missions on multinational treaty delegations across Russia and the former Soviet Union, as well as across our European partners and NATO allies. Upon completion of my interpreting tour, I commissioned as an Intelligence Officer in 2019 and have remained intimately involved with the Russian language and strategic Russian analysis. Since 2020, I have served within U.S.-Russian air deconfliction mechanisms and played an integral role in the U.S. response to Russian aggression in Ukraine. I am currently finishing up my Masters in Russian and Eurasian Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School after being selected by the Air Force Advanced Academic Degree Program.
