Liaised with partners on ongoing joint UN activities on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE): Organized and participated in regular meetings with core regional partners and coordinating responses to queries for technical related information from partners and UNESCO Field Offices on CSE and education for inclusion with focus on LGBTI/SOGIE; coordinated regional communication and advocacy efforts on CSE; managed activity records and prepared monitoring reports related to the regional CSE activities.Coordination of School-related Gender-based Violence (SRGBV) regional programme: Supported the coordination of the regional programme on SRGBV, through collaboration with partners (UNGEI, UN Women, etc.) and UNESCO Field Offices; supported the development of a monitoring tool for Connect with Respect and in relation to SDG4.7; promoted the use of the SRGBV global guidance and organized a regional launch and dissemination of the SRGBV global guidance in Asia-Pacific region; supported UNESCO Field Offices in country-level rollout plans of the Connect with Respect tool; served as the focal point for the UNGEI SRGBV Working Group.

Co-organized a training with United Nation Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI) partners to introduce country counterparts to the “Connect with Respect” curriculum tool for preventing and addressing school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV), and plan for a roll-out of the tool in select countries. Supported country counterparts to plan, implement and report on national consultations on SRGBV/SOGIE-based bullying in 4 countries, including direct support to the consultations in the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. Managed the finalization and dissemination for SRGBV/SOGIE-based bullying studies undertaken in Viet Nam. Assisted with the preparation and delivery of a joint regional consultation on gender and comprehensive sexuality education.

These actions contributed to a campaign following of 13,200+ with 25,000+ views for the campaign promotional videos. Tracked data from campaign contributors and drafted press releases that highlighted key contributions to the #PurpleMySchool campaign. Supported the planning for UNESCO’s offline and online launch of “From Insult to Inclusion: Asia-Pacific report on school bullying, violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity”. Planned and facilitated sessions for Thailand’s Thematic Working Group to Address Bullying on the Basis of SOGIE. Documented all regional and country activities related to UNESCO’s SOGIE and LGBTI issues in education portfolio.

Conducted thematic analysis of filmed interviews with prominent LGBTI activists from Asia and the Pacific and directed the production of three films (Bias & Bullying: Voices from Asia-Pacific classrooms; You are Loved; and Teachers Matter) that were used in sessions for UNESCO’s Regional Consultation on Addressing SOGIE-based Bullying and were key contributions to the social media communications strategy for the launch of UNESCO’s “From Insult to Inclusion” . Sourced and oversaw the logistics of entertainment and coordinated promotional and advocacy events at IDAHOT Thailand 2015.

Organized two study tours, hosting a combined twelve Afghan university representatives for the purpose of learning about higher education administration in the U.S. orienting them to student services provided at UMass/Amherst. Orchestrated travel from Kabul to Amherst, MA, including food and lodging arrangements and scheduling guest speakers from various departments on campus for training sessions.

Supervised working groups for logistics, budget, and programming for the CIES Northeastern Regional Conference, the largest CIES regional conference up until that date, which hosted approximately 220 participants. Oversaw the production of promotional items and advertisements to recruit presentation submissions and registrants. Identified and confirmed attendance of the keynote speaker and guest speakers. Procured sponsorship from, and forged collaboration with, CIES and other university international education departments in the region.

Created an “English for Specific Purposes” curriculum to teach 210 Sichuan University of Science and Engineering freshmen for three semesters. Forged collaborations with student organizations and designed extracurricular activities to build leadership skills, create new forums for improving English, promote environmental awareness, and endorse gender equality initiatives. Executed various teacher-training workshops that encompassed some 250 middle school teachers and focused on student-centered methodologies and improved teaching practices in the areas of listening comprehension and pronunciation.

Institut Pour L'Éducation Populaire (Iep), Kati, Mali

Developed and implemented a smart phone pilot project and collaborated with Education Development Centers, Inc. (EDC) to train eighteen directors and teachers in the use of cell phone technology for professional development in nine schools. Developed an environmental and health education curriculum and supplementary books, songs, and curriculum aids in regional languages for grades 3-5 that was piloted in three urban and three rural schools in an effort to empower students with skills to influence and resolve environmental and health issues in their communities. Created professional development initiatives, including a workshop for middle school teachers to restructure the English curriculum, and a teacher-training program that made use of in-class observations and video footage to train 22 teachers in student-centered pedagogical methods. Planned logistics and created a budget for extracurricular activities including a week-long science/reading camp for 100 students from a local primary school and a five day girl’s empowerment conference for 25 girls from five villages, which I later helped to implement in three other regions. Wrote an orientation training module and directed training for twelve incoming volunteers.
