As part of a collaborative project with my graduate program and the World Bank, I was involved in designing models to forecast agricultural commodity prices in Bhutan using Python. Our team focused on developing and refining time series models, including vector autoregression (VAR) and dynamic factor models (DFM), to generate accurate price forecasts. A significant challenge we faced was overcoming data scarcity and the limited availability of explanatory variables, which required us to be innovative in our approach. We incorporated alternative data sources, such as Google Trends, into predictive models using ridge regressions to enhance the robustness and accuracy of our forecasts. My role also involved rigorous research, academic writing, and ensuring that our findings were presented clearly and effectively. Communicating these complex insights to non-technical stakeholders was crucial, as it ensured that our research could be effectively applied to inform policy decisions in Bhutan.

During my internship at the Riverside District Attorney’s Office, I was responsible for designing and automating a data collection system using Excel and R, which significantly improved the accuracy and efficiency of our monthly metrics. This system streamlined the process, saving secretaries approximately two weeks of work each month by automating tasks that were previously done manually. I worked with complex datasets, which I used to generate reports that offered valuable insights into the department's operations. A key part of this project was communicating the importance and impact of these findings and automation system to a non-technical audience, particularly the department floor. I used tools like Power BI to create clear and actionable visualizations that highlighted the health and performance of the department. This experience not only improved my technical skills but also reinforced the importance of making complex data accessible and meaningful for decision-makers.
