Fathers and Families Center provides training, education, employment guidance, and other important services to young men who have fathered children but are ill-equipped to be parents. The clients have many barriers to success, including failure to complete school, weak job histories, family disruption, mental challenges, and criminal records. Men who complete the program can earn High School Equivalency certificates, be trained and certificated in such skills as forklift operation and job interviews.

After 5 years of successful and rewarding consulting, and having reached the age of 70, I have retired from the business and begun winding down my professional life. The number of "good years" left is uncertain, and I am refocusing my energy and time on other passions, including family matters, private aviation, photography, and writing. It was a great ride-- no regrets.

Executive responsibility for US Medical Division, with >700 staff supporting all commercialized and late-phase products in five therapeutic areas; management scope included clinical trials staff, physicians, statisticians, health outcomes researchers, medical information specialists, medical liaisons, business office and contracting, and quality assurance.

Built and directed endocrinology group supporting late-phase and marketed endocrine products for diabetes mellitus, growth hormone deficiency, and osteoporosis. Extensive experience in product registration, clinical trials, and marketing support.

Directed clinical practice and research activities of the division, and conducted independent, NIH-supported research in molecular genetics of inherited disorders leading to tumors of endocrine glands and other tissues.

Appointed as investigator in the Endocrine Research Unit, rising from Assistant Professor to Professor, Mayo Medical School; Head, Endocrine Research Unit; Assistant Director and Director, General Clinical Research Center; and Director for Research, Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. Twenty-one years of uninterrupted NIH support for research into bone and calcium metabolic disorders, >150 publications.

Served two years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as Fellow in Endocrinology and Metabolism, and two years as Chief, Endocrine Section, Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco, CA (since closed)

Sabbatical Leave, Eccles Institute Of Human Genetics

Sabbatical leave from Mayo Clinic to acquire techniques of genetic linkage analysis and molecular biology, for application to studies.
