Designed professional development for dual language teachers at six schools. Developed and delivered Spanish language assessments. Assisted in budgeting and hiring for the dual language program.

Dual language education is one of the most research-supported instructional methods to help second language learners acquire English. Kindergarteners in Harrisonburg City Public Schools' dual language program receive explicit literacy instruction in Spanish. Students are also exposed to a great deal of vocabulary during daily calendar math in Spanish. For the second half of the day, students receive math, science and social studies instruction in English.

Duties included monitoring daily attendance per district policies, completing teacher walkthrough observations, processing discipline referrals, coordinating dual language program and parent outreach sessions, and providing professional development for staff.

Instructor of EDUC 310, Teaching in a Diverse Society: This course examines how personal and professional values, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors affect teaching and learning. Pre-service teachers develop an understanding of similar and unique characteristics of students in grades 6-12, including culture, heritage, language and learning abilities.Instructor of EDUC 300, Foundations of American Education: A study of the practices and issues that affect American education. Consideration is given to such topics as philosophical approaches to education, history of American education, and the organizational and cultural aspects of schools which influence educational practices.
