Profile bio

About Hunter Spragg

I started learning about programming in elementary school with Scratch, a puzzle piece programming service. It brought me to take intro to computer programming in high school. In which I learned how to program in Java. I had done numerous amounts of volunteer work for server networks as moderator/manager for various gaming networks throughout my high school career. I gained experience hosting, setting up, and configuring various game servers for various individuals. My first real experience making practical code was in my Freshman year of Highschool. I had created a Discord bot that moderated a game server chat, notified management of server issues, and relayed important information about the server to staff. From then on I taught myself Python, JavaScript, and eventually took AP Computer Science Principles in my Junior Year. Over the summer I worked as a Counselor where I worked as a team and got my first taste of real work experience.During my senior year, I did freelance work creating scripts for players in a game called "Garry's Mod." I spent ~2000 hours developing scripts in that language and to this day, I still get contacted regarding my previous work. (Which has now been archived for new developers to learn from). My passion for helping people and programming lead me to pursue Software Engineering at ASU. This passion has led to me tutoring numerous classmates on numerous subjects, including Programming, Math, and English. During my late Sophomore year, I started working as a Technology Consultant for ASU, and (as of writing this) am currently still working there as I finish my degree.

Worked as a backend developer, where I contributed significantly to the team's success through various tasks:PR Template and Code Standardization: I started things strong by creating a standardized Pull Request (PR) template for our repository, ensuring efficient code review processes. Additionally, I established a uniform code styling standard through the implementation of an editorconfig file. This ensured that all developer IDEs had uniform style guidelines.Protocol Implementation and Testing: I played a pivotal role in implementing new SOAP/XML and RESTful/JSON protocols, in order to add additional functionality to the API. I also designed and executed comprehensive Unit and Integration tests for these protocols to help ensure stability.Versatility with IDEs: My internship allowed me to gain hands-on experience with professional Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), including Visual Studio Pro and Rider, further expanding my skill set..NET Expertise: I honed my skills in refactoring substantial amounts of .NET code, working across various major versions of the .NET framework. Additionally, I ported RESTful controllers from older to newer major .NET versions to facilitate data parity.Database Optimization: I identified and implemented enhancements in database communication and interaction.
