I am the Leading Petty Officer onboard USS San Juan(SSN-751) for the past 2 years. I lead and manage a diverse team of seven individuals of various ages, races, ethnicities, and ranks to foster a positive and highly effective working environment on the ship. As the communications security manager my job was to distribute and ensure the fidelity of all cryptographic material to provide secure communications at all times on a sea-going nuclear powered fast attack submarine. As the classified systems LAN administrator I maintained security and all day-to-day functions of a network such as backups, security patches, user management, etc. As the workcenter supervisor and replacement parts petty officer, I lead my division through the full service of preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and the purchase and installation of replacement components in a multi-million dollar submarine radio room.
