Hunter is currently assigned to the Mount Carmel Fire Department as a Lieutenant. In his capacity, Hunter supervises and leads a team of firefighters in fire protection duties. Hunter coordinates with other agencies on emergency management and problem-solving. Hunter is a certified Swiftwater and Flood Water Rescue Technician and serves as one of only two technicians within the department. Hunter is also certified in first aid, CPR, and AED and is attached to the department's cardiac arrest response program. Hunter is certified in vehicle extrication as well as firefighting.

Hunter is a Detective assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. As a Detective assigned to CID, Hunter investigates all crimes that fall beyond the scope of the Patrol Division including, but not limited to property crimes, homicide, violent crime, vice, and arson. Hunter is also specially trained to investigate crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence, take crime scene photographs, and conduct interviews. Hunter is responsible for writing and executing all major search warrants at the department. Hunter is also assigned as a Training Officer within the department. Hunter is a trained Instructor for DUI Enforcement and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Firearms.
