About Hunter Dixon
I am a creative problem solver. When I am given a task, I strive to make sure I complete it to the utmost of my ability. I enjoy expanding my skill set and experiencing new things. As soon as I arrived at Clemson University, I knew it was the place for me. I am not only a student at Clemson but also an employee. After completing my first hands-on class in the GC major, Graphic Communications 1, I was asked to become a teaching assistant. I continued to work as a TA for two years, and the experience gained from the position was incredibly valuable. Not only have I been able to expand my mechanical knowledge of screen printing and flexography, but I have been able to grow my theoretical knowledge alongside it.After my sophomore year, I took an internship as a GC student at All Printing Resources, working directly with Catherine Haynes. I developed training videos. I contributed to these videos through storyboarding, photographing, filming, capturing audio, designing popups, editing, animating, subtitling, and converting content and videos. For the second half of my Junior year, I moved to Stuttgart, Germany, and studied printing and packaging at HdM. This was an incredible opportunity that I am so grateful for, I was able to learn more about the aspects of the print industry that I had been otherwise unexposed to. I took classes in sustainability, prepress, post-press, and metrology. Through these classes, I learned that I had a passion for sustainability and decided I wanted to pursue this area further.Upon returning from Germany I moved to Brookfield, Wisconsin, and started an internship at Colordyne Technologies for the fall. This internship further improved my customer relations, print production, and prepress skills. During this internship, I was able to work with many different companies and customers demonstrating the capabilities of the Colordyne print engines.Following my return to Clemson after a year of being away, I decided to pursue my passion for sustainability and accepted a position as a Food Nutrition and Packaging Science Ph.D. student. I have begun working with Dr. Sternberg and Dr. Hurley on The Sustainable Advantage project helping disadvantaged companies transition to sustainable packaging alternatives.Outside of my work and education, I am an avid fan of the outdoors. I spend every chance I can outdoors either hiking, reading in a hammock, or swimming. I believe that it is paramount for everyone around the world to come together and protect this world we live in so that future generations can enjoy its beauty.
