I am a mathematics teacher at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Sign Language and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Gardner-Webb University. I am a devout learner and problem solver, allowing me develop solutions to different problems any time a situation might occur - an ability I am able to improve upon through my continual love of mathematics and the structure and rules of American Sign Language. Through the years, I have served as the Gardner-Webb University ASL Club's Club Advisor and Vice President, with the goal of serving as an ally to the Deaf Community, both through spreading awareness of Deaf Culture, and also spreading my joy of mathematics to Deaf students.Alongside my love for Deaf Culture, I am also determined to teach students mathematics in the most efficient way possible - throughout my time in school, I have had countless students approach me explaining that their teacher was not properly teaching them. By simplifying the terminology used and by creating an easy-to-navigate chain of concepts, the students always left with a better understanding of the content than they had before. It is this very idea that I wish to take with me through my teaching career. Too many times do teachers elaborate on topics they should not, and withhold information on topics they should be elaborating on - with my ability to simplify topics and harsher material, I plan to teach students in a way that leaves them confident in their own mathematical abilities.
