I‘ve been described as a perfectionist throughout my career, for better or for worse. As it relates to things that I work on, I have a very high expectation for quality. I am always pushing the bar with anything that has my name on it. I’ve been fortunate in my career to be placed on projects where I’ve had influence over the direction and implementation. With each project, I have continued to learn new technologies that improve development workflow and enhance quality; leading to a better end-result. I’ve learned that I cannot work on projects when my knowledge has become stale. I, for better or for worse (yet again), find that I get writer’s block when it comes to software engineering if I’m relegated to mundane tasks. My personality is much better suited to exploration and discovery of new technologies and processes and figuring out how to architect entire systems rather than focusing on a narrow scope of work that amounts to little more than crossing tasks off of a checklist.I’ve had a very fruitful and interesting career that followed a very similar experience completing my degree. Before graduation, I had been contracted by the university to build a web application for a PhD research project and then became a teaching assistant for a class focusing on full-stack web development. Those opportunities jump-started my career by allowing me to skip being a junior-level engineer and go straight into an intermediate-level role just one week after graduation. Then, only 2.5 years into my career, I was promoted to a Senior Software Engineer. I’ve had an incredibly fast, extremely satisfying, and unbelievably fun ride thus far in my career. God has blessed my journey by allowing me to work with fascinating technologies and an incredible team, and by placing me in a role that I never could have imagined being in so early on. I’m exceedingly grateful with what God did during the first 2.5 years and I am just as excited to see what God does with the next 2.5 years and all the years after that.
