I have recently concluded my 2024 summer internship at the South Florida Water Management District in West Palm Beach, FL. During this internship I was given the opportunity to manage multiple projects, assist and observe in multiple pump removals, instillations and refurbishments including a 935 Cubic Foot per Second pump. I was also able to facilitate multiple projects, perform research and validate data within my time at the South Florida Water Management District. I managed the replacement of two overhead double girder crane systems, multiple stem gate actuator repairs, and the setup of long-term vibrational testing of multiple motors and gearboxes. This began a research project involving the longevity and need for refurbishments of pump motors and gearboxes allowing Florida to remain habitable. During my time I was able to learn countless lessons in working with many Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Field Technicians and Equipment Operators. Talking with these individuals every day has allowed me to take what I have learned in the classroom and apply it directly to industry. These individuals taught me many vital industry lessons I can now take back to the classroom as a Junior at Colorado School of Mines, further developing my skills as a studying Engineer. This is an experience I will never forget as it has marked a turning point in my engineering career, giving me the understanding necessary to grow in my life and career.
