Joyce Hunter has been a human rights activist, researcher, and clinician for over 30+ years, specializing in issues of youth, women, HIV/AIDS, and LGBT communities. A Research Scientist, HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies, Division of Gender, Sexuality, and Health, New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University, she is also Assistant Clinical Professor, in Psychiatry, and Assistant Professor of Public Health, Department of Sociomedical Sciences, both at Columbia University. As Principal Investigator, "Working It Out," HIV prevention for LGB adolescents, Dr. Hunter designed an intervention with the community and has worked with LGBT adolescents as clinical social worker, working with LGB, transgender, and heterosexual adolescents. Dr. Hunter has conducted clinical training for professionals and graduate schools in the health care, mental health, and education fields. Her articles have been published in journals and books. She serves as a reviewer and editorial board member of related journals, and was Consulting Editor of the Encyclopedia of AIDS. She also served on the governing council of the International AIDS Society. Dr. Hunter is a founding member, International Women’s AIDS Caucus (IAWC). Since 1972, Dr. Hunter has been a community activist for LGBT, on women and girls health care issues, advocating and coordinating meetings and symposiums at the last several World AIDS Conferences.
