My primary responsibility with the lab was to oversee all research activities utilizing our Nikon A1R multi-photon microscope. My experience with multi-photon imaging began at Baylor College of Medicine, where I trained in neurosurgical and neuroimaging techniques for the study of neuronal health and maintenance. My work focused on in vivo multi-photon approaches to brain imaging in transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer's disease.Other duties in the lab included setup and maintenance of our patch-clamp electrophysiology hardware for neuroelectrical data recording from live brain tissue and cultured neurons. In addition, I handling computer administration tasks and software design services for the Lu lab and collaborators. Examples included construction and management of the lab data server, imaging data analysis, and custom software development for batch analysis of laboratory data. Having spent most of my time previously engaged in active laboratory research at the bench, I provided training for new and existing lab members in a wide range of wet-lab techniques, experimental protocols and research design, and post-hoc data analysis.

My graduate work focused on structural and functional characterization of the neuronal maintenance factor NMNAT2, primarily using in vivo approaches. The research was primarily targeted at defining the cellular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's Disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.

Examined the contribution of a metabotropic glutamate receptor, mGluR5, to long-term depression mechanisms in the barrel (somatosensory) cortex of developing mice. Regularly used techniques included somatosensory deprivation, thalamocortical slice preparation, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and basic histology (cytochrome oxidase staining).

Characterized and established a working colony of transgenic mice that feature a novel, non-invasive approach to silencing populations of neurons in vivo. Characterizations included a wide array of behavioral tests and basic histology to analyze transgene expression patterns.
