I am a writer and instructor currently working as HR coordinator for ITW Evercoat in Cincinnati. As an instructor, my teaching philosophy includes bridging the gaps between work and play by providing themes to my courses, assignments, and activities that stimulate the interests of my students while also fulfilling the learning outcomes of the course; skills that I learned and practiced during my undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate career at Auburn University. My true passion, though, lies in writing, where my interests include film, film theory, identity on the screen, the history of cinema, and popular culture at large. Though I was born and raised in a small fishing town in Alabama, my obsession with film and film studies began when I was in high school; I had started working minimum wage jobs and, having some disposable income for the first time in my life, began a habit of spending it at movie theaters and on secondhand DVD and Blu-Ray copies of films that still sit on my shelf today. It wasn't until my junior year of college - when I was encouraged to write my first academic work on cinema about Spike Lee's polarizing film Chi-Raq - that I realized that this obsession could function not just as a hobby, but also as a career.I'd go on to write about Stanley Kubrick for my senior thesis before focusing primarily on identity on film for my graduate studies, even going so far as to publish work on Sofia Coppola in Bright Lights Film Journal during my first year (followed by the publication of an article on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in the same journal after finishing my MA). My hope is to continue this journey upward, writing and publishing my thoughts on the topics about which I am passionate.
