TEXAS’ PREMIER AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM -- In 1963, George Haddaway, aviation historian and Flight Magazine publisher, donated his vast collection of artifacts and archival materials to The University of Texas. Later, this “History of Aviation Collection” moved to The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in the late 1970s.In 1988, UTD and Mr. Haddaway collaborated with Dallas leaders, including Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, William E. “Bill” Cooper, and Jan Collmer, to establish the Frontiers of Flight Museum as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The City of Dallas provided space at Love Field’s main terminal building’s mezzanine level, starting in 1990.The museum’s popularity spurred plans to construct the current facility, a 100,000 square foot complex situated at the southeastern corner of Dallas Love Field Airport on Lemmon Avenue. Opening in June 2004, it comprises two climate-controlled hangar-like buildings connected by a structure on both levels.
