Huw has a very strong business and environmental background. Joining the Royal Navy from University, he served in a number of roles at sea and ashore in UK, US and Europe before joining the Senior Leadership Team at Rolls-Royce. He has also worked extensively with SMEs having founded and assisted technology start ups and currently assesses bids from SMEs for European Union and Blue Economy funding. He has Masters degrees in Business, Meteorology and Oceanography and International Affairs and has consulted extensively on marine meteorological issues including ship/cargo loss and performance claims. He is a Nautical Institute representative to the International Maritime Organisation and member of the World Meteorological Organisation Steering Committee on Marine Meteorology and Oceanographic services and was the inaugural Chair of the WMO Expert Team on Competencies and Capacity Building. He is a respected scientific and technical author published by the Nautical Institute.
