I designed, developed and supported a Data Warehousing validation system. This was developed for an ORACLE database using Pro*C, PL/SQL, SQLPlus, SQL Loader. I also designed and developed reports written in C using Ingres, Oracle, SED, AWK and Shell Script.Developed as part the full project life cycle, this included writing specifications, test plans and test scripts before implementation. Communications at all levels was necessary and on the job training for permanent staff was given to enable in-house support of the new system.As my manager could not find suitable staff to develop and support COBOL and DB2 software, I enquired what skills were required. As I have previous experience of these skills, I wrote the required programs and Job Control, during quiet periods of support and assisted existing staff in taking control of this software.

This was coded in Oracle Forms using an Oracle Database and was developed in Sed, Awk, Korn and Bourne shell, C, Pro*COBOL, PL/SQL, Oracle Reports. I also supported IBM mainframe COBOL systems, which matched the panel to mailing lists and controlled the polling systems overnight.

Gallup is primarily a market research company but they also provide Music and Games Charts based on sales figures in the UK and EIRE. They employed me to work as an Analyst/Programmer on their BBC Charts systems in a VM/VSE environment.I provided day-to-day support of the music charts system using COBOL, Assembler, Selcopy, Syncsort, VSAM and a report-writing package called EARL. All the runs are controlled by the REXX job control language.I rewrote their Retailer Reports System using the above languages, which provides sales figures for all Music, Video and Games formats to large retail chains such as Boots, Woolworth, HMV, Our Price, John Menzies etc. and also smaller independent retail outlets.I redesigned the BBC Music charts system to make it easier to maintain and more flexible which took approximately 4 months. This enabled me to adapt the system to provide more short and long terms charts for the Games data and also ease the production of ad/hoc charts from the Music sales information.The computer system is out-sourced, (Facilities Managed) at my previous company site, PCL Computer Services.As Gallup were a customer of mine in my last employment I also provided support in VSE, VTAM/NCP and TUBES for Networking, VTAMPRINT for their printers and a backup package called Syback for Disaster Recovery and Archives.

The Co-operative Bank provides banking services across the UK via their branches but also through their grocery stores. Using these skillsI worked as part of a team to produce an on-line Credit Clearing System, which enabled credits to be processed more efficiently. During this project I altered IBM supplied Macros and programmed in SCI, an assembler type language, which is used for cheque sorters and other optical character reader devices.
