Current
Lead Engineer - Automation, Software & Controls
Director / Motion Planning Engineering
○ Introduced and integrated company to LEAN enterprise and AGILE methodologies. Transitioned company developers and designers on both software and hardware to adapt Agile project management for better business agility with AZURE Devops.○ Worked on bringing general product software design to be compliant with ISO 26262 standards and ISO 13849 for parallel architecture and system redundancy, both with the intentions of becoming certified. Used RIA R15.08 for risk assessment.○ Designed software architecture and pipeline encompassing full autonomous vehicle stack for production level vehicles.○ Maintained releases and controlled software version/pipeline for the full autonomy stack that is deployed on the vehicles.○ Directed multiple teams such as planning, perception, controls, mapping, localization, simulation, mechatronics, software systems and operations in completing demos and POCs for customers and investors to secure contracts and funding.○ Designed and integrated simulation software to improve CI/CD workflow for planning, perception and control stacks.○ Researched machine learning, reinforcement learning, and deep learning based approaches for behavior prediction, trajectory generation, and decision making.○ Designed and integrated patentable and unique features that differentiated us from our competitors.○ Drafting product specification sheets, risk analysis reports, dfmea, ODD, software licensing, vehicle scenarios, etc.
Team Lead / Senior Motion Planning Engineer
○ Lead and managed the entire motion planning team in researching, innovating, programming, integrating, testing and maintaining autonomous vehicle path planning stack for vehicle fleet.○ Redesigned motion planning stack architecture for better optimization and efficiency.○ Developed and integrated multithreading and parallelization based optimization for planning stack.○ Defined general semantic/HD map protocol to work in all aviation environments for localization.○ Created a portable test bench to mimic vehicle architecture for rapid prototyping.○ Recruited top talent for multiple different autonomy related teams and projects.
Path Planning / Vehicle Decision-Making Engineer
○ Developed and integrated path planning packages including AV technology such as free space planning, vehicle motion models, obstacle avoidance, decision makers, and more to allow operation of a vehicle in dynamic environments.○ Responsible for creating untraditional controller architecture which involved defining CAN communication from high level decision makers to low level controllers for safe and reliable vehicle propulsion and steering. Bench marked different combinations of controller architectures on custom built test bench replicating the vehicle operation.○ Responsible for building, maintaining and updating the main compute architecture/custom PC to optimize not only the computational cost but also to minimize packaging, and maximize rugged ability in varying operational temperatures.○ Integrated new frameworks and simulators such as Carla, Autoware, and Docker to improve the continuous research and development of AV technology as new operating systems, software and hardware innovations are released.
Graduate Student Researcher
This work is in partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD), the US Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC), Ford and Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research. The proposed research aims to facilitate the exploration of new architectures for Next Generation Combat Vehicles (NGCV) through virtual prototyping. By using a formal modeling language (i.e., SysML) for capturing the architectures of vehicles, commonality between vehicle systems and their corresponding simulation models can be exploited to compose models of subsystems and components-both hardware and software—into a full vehicle-level virtual prototype. This would allow for the exploration of a larger number of vehicle architectures by significantly reducing the amount of time and effort needed to generate a virtual prototype, or alternatively, allow for a more thorough analysis and virtual validation of any given vehicle system.
Autonomy Team Leader / Motion Planning & Decision Engineer For Deep Orange 11
"Deep Orange is a framework within Clemson University’s Department of Automotive Engineering that immerses graduate students into the world of a future OEM and/or supplier. Working collaboratively, students, multi-disciplinary faculty, and participating industry partners focus on producing a new vehicle prototype each year." Deep Orange 11 is a sustainable by design vehicle envisioned for the year 2035. By using the first “All-In-One” open source software stack for autonomous driving technology, Autoware.ai, our Autonomy team at Deep Orange 11 integrates the many modules of, mapping, localization, sensing, detection, prediction, mission/motion planning, and controls, etc. while also extending and developing our own modules to create a fully autonomous vehicle from ground up.
Product Engineering Intern
Mass Production TechnologySamsung (SEHA) in Newberry, SC is a brand new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant that produces premium home appliances. Being part of a start-up and the first intern at this massive plant allowed me to really engage in critical preliminary research and development. My projects involved prototyping large appliances, designing and optimizing production lines, and also programming quality control advanced vision systems that used image processing to detect defects on the appliances before hitting the market.
Electrical Engineering Intern
Crown Cork & Seal leads the beverage packaging industry with innovative technologies that redefine how the world looks at beverage cans. While working as a Corporate Electrical Engineering Intern, I gained experience in Arc Flash Analysis, Electrical Infrastructure (PLC Obsolescence), and plant electrical documentation.
Departmental Honors Undergraduate Researcher
Research Adivsor: Dr. Pierluigi PisuThe motive behind this project was to build a fully autonomous and intelligent golfcart. The two main parts to setup the golf cart was the upper decision makingcontroller which consisted of the image or environment processing through sensorsradars and a capable computer through a neural network; and then the lower levelcontrols which dealt with motor and steering functions through CAN communication.
Data Scientist Intern
The [innovation] Lab at BMW researches emerging technologies and develops Proofs of Concepts to understand how they could fit within the company. I was involved in multiple projects such as intelligent voice integration, artificial intelligence implementation with the DJI Phantom Drones, Big Data and Data Science, Internet of Things, Interactive User Interfaces, data security and encryption, etc.
Departmental Honors Undergraduate Researcher
Research Adviser: Dr. Yongqiang WangThis project aims at the development of a car racing video game which utilizes distributed dynamical systems and even broader dynamical systems, control courses and auto engineering courses which is implemented in the research and further development of autonomous cars.
