Artist

Freelance

London, England, United Kingdom

I am American artist and art educator living and working in London, UK. Sometimes fun, sometimes serious, I like to use my art to spread joy but also as a form of activism and a means to challenge traditional ideas of what constitutes fine art. I believe boldly in the idea that Art is for Everyone and work to empower people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to be creative and celebrate art in all its forms. In my artwork, I use shapes and patterns to create an abstract language that expresses themes of community, friendship, feminism, activism, nature, intersectionality and much more. Sometimes a joyful celebration of nature, other times a politically charged statement, my works are an attempt to tell a story and to make sense of the world around me. Though paint is my primary medium, I also integrate fabric, thread and wool into my works in an effort to blur the lines between craft and fine art. My hope being to challenge traditional ideas about what constitutes ‘fine’ art in order to better recognize and include the work of women artists throughout history. In addition to creating and selling artwork I also work as a freelance art educator in museums and art institutions, using what I have learned to empower a diverse range of participants to make, love and understand art.
