SingleQuantum is a single-photon detector manufacturer for which I helped during its startup phase to develop a set of Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS) tools. For this, I used Django, VueJS, and Docker to replace their existing setup with Google Sheets. Within the software team, I was the only one with a Computer Science background and introduced best practices such as using unit and integration tests, proper database migrations, Gitlab, code review, and continuous integration. This significantly reduced bugs and downtime, and established a much shorter development cycle.

GeneScape advises on drug target discovery for rare genetic diseases, for which I developed a new data pipeline. For this, I used the workflow management system Snakemake which orchestrates a set of small Python scripts that replaced their existing monolithic R script. Using a modular approach I was able to increase its throughput, adding more data sources, and adding additional information on interesting SNPs.

Using C++ and PostgreSQL, I worked on a solution to learn state machines from big log data.

The SurvivalStrijd is a yearly sports event in Delft with over 800 participants. During my time in the board I took care of the finances and the registration of the participants. As the SurivalStrijd was in the process of becoming financially independent of S.B.V Slopend there were some particular challenges with the cash flows and taxes.

In a multidisciplinary team I helped developing an on-site testing device for antibiotic resistant bacteria, using CRISPR-Cas13a.During this project, I performed an bioinformatics analysis on potential regions of antibiotics genes which could be targeted by Cas13a. Next to that I wrote the website featuring our project, and coordinated the content creation for this. I also helped out my team members when they had trouble programming.During a five day event in Boston we presented our project and attended other universities' projects. We were the winner of the grand prize (overgrad) and 8 special awards.

During my time in the board of S.B.V. Slopend I took care of day-to-day management and in particular finances. I also implemented the use of an accounting program because the current Excel workflows didn't scale well with the increasing number of members.
