As a Research Assistant under the supervision of a distinguished professor at the University of Ottawa, I actively contributed to a compelling project that focused on the labor market experiences of immigrants in STEM fields within Ottawa. This research initiative aimed to understand how newcomers to Canada navigated the job market using networks and social media platforms. My involvement in this project involved conducting interviews with over 35 participants, analyzing the data using NVivo software, and providing valuable insights into the integration of immigrants into the Canadian workforce.In collaboration with my supervisor, I played a crucial role in designing the research methodology and interview protocol. We aimed to gather firsthand accounts and experiences from immigrants who had entered the Canadian job market in STEM fields. To accomplish this, I conducted in-depth interviews with participants, delving into their employment journey, challenges faced, and strategies employed to find suitable opportunities. Throughout the project, I demonstrated strong organizational skills to efficiently manage the interview process. This included identifying and recruiting suitable participants, scheduling interviews, and ensuring the collection of accurate and comprehensive data. Additionally, I ensured the interviews were conducted in a sensitive and professional manner, establishing rapport with participants and creating a comfortable environment for them to share their experiences openly.To analyze and interpret the extensive interview data, we utilized NVivo, a powerful qualitative analysis software. I took the lead in transcribing and coding the interviews, meticulously identifying recurring themes, patterns, and emerging insights. This involved organizing and categorizing the data, enabling us to draw meaningful conclusions and extract key findings regarding the employment experiences of immigrants in STEM fields within Ottawa.
