The Black Diamond Group, LLC, now operating as Black Diamond Capital Partners (“Black Diamond”) is a merchant bank and advisory company. The company concentrates its activities in the insurance industry, with an emphasis on restructurings and investments in both the Property & Casualty and Life sectors.Coordinated and led Black Diamond’s assignments in assisting State insurance departments with company specific Property & Casualty runoff and rehabilitation services. Worked under the Special Deputy Receiver, as appointed by the Texas Department of Insurance, with regard to the rehabilitation of Highlands Insurance Company. Developed new Investment guidelines, as well as helped modify Cash Flow Model and develop Asset/Liability Matching Analysis tool to better analyze company’s ability to pay creditors.

Produced $12 million of underwriting income. Secured new contracts by building client relationships with Presidents, Chief Financial Officers, Treasurers, and Chief Underwriting Officers. Introduced and marketed Finite Risk, Integrated Risk Management, Asset/Liability Management, Investment Banking and Capital Markets products to insurance companies.In collaborative effort with Swiss Re America’s Branch Managers and Account Executives, introduced and marketed Capital Markets, Finite Risk, Integrated Risk Management, and Asset/Liability Management products to insurance companies. Created holistic, balance sheet oriented risk management solutions and formulated deal structures specific to client needs; negotiated terms and optimized cost based on client objectives.Co-developed business plan for the Americas Division’s new Structured Finite Risk unit. Formulated strategic initiatives and co-authored new pro-active marketing strategy for Swiss Re New Markets Insurance Marketing unit.

Led CIGNA’s Finite Risk Management unit to record earnings, in excess of $65 million. Increased annual net income by 45 percent and assets under management by $100 million (to $250 million).Held personally responsible for all aspects of the unit, including client relations, underwriting, asset management, claims handling, marketing, product development, capital management, accounting and strategic planning.

Treasurer's Division Saved $20 million by restructuring CIGNA Corporation’s balance sheet. Negotiated $1 billion of debt, bank lines, and letters of credit, resulting in a substantial reduction to the Corporation’s after-tax cost of capital. Financings executed at optimum cost while maintaining financial flexibility and a sound balance sheet.Developed and implemented CIGNA’s financial policies with regard to return on equity, common dividend payout, debt/equity leverage, maturity structure, and foreign currency risk management. Chaired foreign exchange committee and hedged $300 million of exposures.Negotiated and renegotiated six-year aircraft lease for CIGNA; creative structure saved $1.35 million versus an operating lease. Refinanced a subsidiary’s 10-1/4% tax-exempt industrial revenue bond; present value savings totaled just under $1 million. Negotiated an unsecured $60 million credit facility for a real estate portfolio during a turbulent commercial real estate market.Built new and enhanced existing investment banking, commercial banking, and rating agency relationships. Each year, prepared rating agency briefing book that summarized prior year results and outlined, by operating segment, CIGNA Corporation’s strategic direction.
