When I arrived at GoReact, there were no UX designers, product managers, or supporting product processes. I was able to establish product design and product management functions by hiring and developing talent and by creating and evangelizing best product practices. Designed and tested solutions for evaluating candidates that would work elegantly on Android, IOS and in the web application.Identified and designed solutions for top user issues that were causing customer pain and driving support calls. Redesigned 25+ system generated notification user emails to make them easier to consume and to improve product interaction.Tore down some of the silos between product, marketing and support by seeking cross-department understanding and working toward solutions that benefited all involved.Coordinated speakers for bi-monthly product and engineering lunch and learns.

I was a part of the original product launch of Sling TV and drove the redesign of the second iteration of the product. I created designs and solutions that would work with a variety of remotes, and for the following platforms and operating systems: IOS, Android, Fire TV, Android TV, Roku, Xbox, Chromecast and web. Much of the design still found in the products originated from designs I led while I was there.

I introduced UX as a discipline in the company and helped improve the user experience of the web applications. Other responsibilities during my in-house contract included redesigning the dashboard landing page of the web application and as well as a complete overhaul of the navigation system. Both of those projects were the highest touch areas of the application.I also conducted a user survey which received 4,000 results and provided an important baseline as well as a large set of data about areas of the web application that need improved. I analyzed the results and madero conclusions as to needed future enhancements.The redesign of the web application dashboard and the navigation significantly improved the usability of the web application and are still in use as I designed them.

Designed and coordinated the launch of a new web application that integrated with and offered the combined functionality of the two desktop clients that represented the core software from two merging companies (Sirsi & Dynix). This has proven to be among the some most complex and fulfilling design problems of my career.Designed and launched the experience for a new mobile app for managing and moving library inventory from carts to shelves as well as a redesign for another app that enables library patrons to search and reserve books from hundreds of different libraries.Redesigned the web search experience which allowed hundreds of thousands of users to find books and media at their local libraries. Introduced some key design concepts in relation to filtering and faceting search results that have large amounts of meta-data associated with the objects.Led the creation and organization of user experience principles that would guide the design and discussion of the product suite. These principles helped focus product and engineering discussions on delivering great experiences and led to less subjectivity, less contention and more user-focused meetings. I was asked to present these principles at COSUGI conference in Salt Lake City.

After realizing my passion for designing and developing websites, I started seeking freelance projects. This end-to-end business and technical experience forced me to dive deeper into everything I thought I knew. I worked with great customers, designed and built some great websites and learned a lot. While I preparedness for a transition more into more direct UX and product design roles.

As the Director of Web Operations I managed the I.T., Software Development and Design departments. I was responsible for the people in those departments as well as the outcomes produced. Additionally, I made regular contributions to solutions and provided coaching to those who reported to me.I was responsible for making sure that all web applications and websites for customers were designed and delivered in a reasonable amount of time while meeting the highest standards. At times our team was designing, developing and releasing more than 20 custom websites per month.
