I am a multi-award winning investigative reporter and foreign correspondent working with a range of international publications to produce breakthrough journalism. My reporting focuses on conflict, geopolitics, humanitarian emergencies, migration, multinationals and US foreign policy and I have a record of delivering scoops and exclusives. INVESTIGATIONS IMPACTSomalia: From 2019 - 2021 I was the only international correspondent based in Somalia, where I covered US foreign policy. In this role I broke news on the American military’s official return since Black Hawk Down, filed exclusives on Congressional demands for information on civilian casualties, long form investigations on back-door dealings between the US and Somali governments and the failed US training of Somali Special Forces. My work has prompted changes to military policy and open Congressional letters. After I started reporting on US airstrikes in Somalia, the military admitted its first civilian casualties since it began carrying out strikes in 2007 and instituted a civilian casualty reporting protocol. Kenya: I filed an investigation revealing Uber’s business model in Kenya with sourcing from former high-level Uber employees. The report is currently being used by Uber drivers as part of a lawsuit. It was picked up by Bloomberg, Business Insider, the New York Times, World Politics Review and Yahoo! News. My work has been republished on six continents and cited in dozens of reports by high profile organizations and institutions including Amnesty International, the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU, Combatting Terrorism Center at West Point, Congressional Research Service, Human Rights Watch, Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, Program on Extremism at George Washington University, Royal United Services Institute and many others. Additionally, my reporting is required reading for university courses including at Columbia and Georgetown. I've also spoken about my reporting on panels, podcasts, TV, radio and at numerous conferences and to university classes.
