Salendine Nook Huddersfield

I have worked at my current branch of Sainsbury’s for the last 2 years in the role of Trading Manager. My team consists of 5 store supervisors and 27 colleagues. This role has been one of the most challenging for me and yet one of the most enjoyable. I manage a multi disciplined team here however, I have instigated a significant structure change to create an integrated multi skilled team who are cross functional, flexible and a more productive team. I have supported the Store Manager with this vision and the net result is two consecutive years of significant growth in sales and strong KPIs. This shows that I am an agent of change and embrace it. My current responsibilities are dry goods, frozen foods, off licence, health and beauty, stock management, instore mini bakery, goods inwards, evening shift replenishment, nightshift team and general merchandise. I am accountable for the standards of merchandising on the departments, there financial performance and ensuring I beat my sales targets whilst minimising my waste and shrinkage budgets. I also run the shop regularly in the absence of the Store Manager, looking at the shop through the eyes of the customer to ensure we offer the best level of availability, quality and service at all times. I am also well versed in recruitment, disciplinary and security interviewing techniques. I love the retail environment as no two days are the same, I enjoy succeeding and ensuring my team get the recognition they deserve for their efforts, I succeed because they do.

I previously worked at my local branch of Sainsbury’s in Wakefield for 3 years in the role of Drygoods Manager. I was drafted in to set up the depts from scratch and open the store in my current position with responsibility for a 20 strong team looking after dry goods, frozen foods, off licence, health and beauty, stock management and general merchandise. I also ran the shop twice a week in the absence of the Senior management team.

Shorehead Huddersfield

I was one of the pilot Drygoods Managers created in a proposed management restructure, the accountabilities were the same as above as listed above, however, this was with a 35 strong team, including 2 teamleaders. and I also had to give direct feedback on the new job, responsibilities, and what issues were encountered and solutions or improvements that could be made to the role before rolling it out corporately, which I thoroughly enjoyed being apart of.

Shorehead Hudderfield

I was the Off Licence Manager at Sainsbury’s Shorehead store in Huddersfield. My dept was one of the top 5 Off Licence depts in the company taking on average £120k per week. I had 10 colleagues who reported directly to me. I was responsible for the day to day running of the dept, all aspects of forward planning, action planning, problem solving, networking with the buying team at head office, managing my team, their schedules and their on going training and development. Trading the dept legally, managing the day-to-day health and safety of the dept and monthly through self audits, whilst observing the terms of the Alcohol Licence. I was accountable for achieving the sales, losses, stock result and hours budgets. I held weekly tastings with my team to build their product knowledge, engage them in the dept and develop a passion for the products we sold.

Moortown Leeds

I was the Produce Manager in Leeds, which was the busiest dept on the region. My main responsibilities were to trade the dept legally and safely, whilst coaching and developing the 20 colleagues, under my responsibility, to ensure customer satisfaction was met through quality, freshness and colleague interaction. I was accountable for achieving the sales and losses budgets for Produce on a weekly basis, managing my stock result and ensuring that correct merchandising standards are maintained at all times. My responsibilities extended to the management of the Salad Bar and Hot Food counters as well. I was responsible for the day-to-day running of these counters, scheduling accuracy, sales and loss budgets, etc. This team consisted of a further 10 colleagues between the two counters.

Moortown Leeds

I was the Stock Control Manager in the busiest Sainsbury’s store on the region, taking in excess of £48m per year. I was accountable for the inventory management of the whole store, maintenance of the ordering system, availability, special offer forecasting, stock loss and the stores’ stock result. I liased with the Senior Management team on all of the above, and created action plans with Department Managers, where necessary, in order to achieve the budgets set by the company.I was also accountable for the warehouse operation in its entirety. This was a 24 hour operation which comprised of goods inwards from our depot network and direct from suppliers, goods storage, order picking and returns. Reporting to me, I had 1 Assistant Manager, 2 supervisors and 10 colleagues working on my team.I was responsible for the day to day running of these departments, performance managing my team to achieve the targets set by the company, and their personal development through one to one discussions. I also self audited the health and safety and food safety aspects of my teams monthly, to ensure we complied with all statutory regulations.
