Speech & Audio Signal Processing and Machine Learning Algorithm DevelopmentTransitioning Dev-Audio microphone array technology acquired by Biamp into new products, including array design and signal processing algorithms for beamforming, voice tracking and noise reduction. To date this has resulted in Biamp's DEVIO microphone array products (DCM-1, DTM-1) and the new TCM-1 for Tesira systems, and has also contributed towards Noise Reduction in the Acoustic Echo Cancelation block across the Tesira platform. Current role involves research and development of next generation voice processing algorithms.

Founder / Managing Director of a start-up company developing an innovative microphone array product, the Microcone, and an associated software application for recording meetings. The Microcone product was distributed internationally, including on Amazon and Apple Store. The product was recognized with Macworld Best of Show 2012, Australian International Design Award in 2011 and the Telstra Innovation Challenge in 2010. As founder of a small start-up, I enjoyed being involved in the full commercialisation process from research concept to product launch, culminating in company sale to Biamp Systems. My day to day work was diverse, e.g. including financing, intellectual property protection, software and hardware development, prototyping, manufacture, regulatory compliance for export, business development, marketing and sales. Dev-Audio was Acquired by Biamp Systems in May 2014.

Speech, Audio, Image and Video Technologies (SAIVT) Research Program.Student supervision and project-based research in speech signal processing and recognition.

Responsible for research projects involving audiovisual signal processing, natural language processing and machine learning. As part of this, I initiated and lead a project to facilitate the collection of cancer stage data by automatically analysing medical reports using machine learning and natural language processing algorithms. This was independently trialled with the Cancer Control group in Queensland Health and has since lead to several follow-on projects.

Research and development in computer speech processing and multimodal information management. Project coordination, PhD supervision. In my time at IDIAP I was involved in several Swiss and European collaborative research projects involving a range of academic and industry partners. From 2004 I was Scientific Coordinator of the AMI (Augmented Multi-party Interaction) European FP6 project, and worked in the design and collection of the AMI Corpus, a multi-modal data set of over 100 hours of meetings. I also helped develop the multi-microphone front-end processing in the AMI Automatic Speech Recognition system entered in NIST meeting recognition evaluations.
