International Youth Volunteer
From being a successful candidate for the VSO ICS (International Citizen Service) programme I was first tasked with fundraising £800 towards the cost of the programme. With this being achieved, I was placed in the Taita Taveta region in Kenya.I lived with a host family along with a fellow volunteer from Kenya for 3 months. I worked with an organisation called G.A.F.F.E.R to implement & facilitate the WASH United programme which focuses on ensuring children know the importance of water & sanitation hygiene. Alongside a fellow volunteer we managed to reach over 900 pupils.I was elected leader of our group of 20 volunteers by my peers & was tasked with ensuring that each volunteer achieved their goal that they had set out at the start along with chairing any meetings.In addition to my placement, I used my initiative & took on a side project of creating a website for my host family & their business to help promote the rooms & buildings that they rent out to tourists/volunteers.
