As Team Leader on the International Citizen Service program, I led a cross-cultural team of 21 volunteers aged between 18-25 years in Siaya County, Kenya. The program's focus was on the empowerment of youths for employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.My main responsibilities included:- Assisting in the planning of the projects that the volunteers would be working on- Monitoring & evaluation of 9 projects, ensuring that they were meeting the program's objectives- Relationship management with local organisations, community members, county government & schools- Budget management- Advocating on the importance of having youth friendly services to the county government- Pastoral support to all volunteers- Volunteer coaching through 1:1 sessions, assisting each volunteer in setting their SMART objectives - Supporting volunteers in the delivery of the programI was able to develop my skills in a number of areas of which I have noted the key ones below:- Leadership- Project management- Cross-cultural communication- Budget management- Conflict management- Facilitation- Prioritising workload in a busy environment- Mentoring

Providing business support across the whole of the Practice Improvement department, I was responsible for a number of areas:- Dealing with police investigations and historical abuse- Project leading on setting up the department's internal intranet- External consultancy website management- Data analysis for reports- Creating monthly newsletters for an external audience via Dotmailer- Invoicing In addition to my role, I served as a committee member on Action for Children's Gender Empowerment Network where I was involved with organising our first external event on the topic of 'Women in Leadership'. The committee has also been working closely with senior management with regards to the gender pay gap and the organisation's strategy on how to reduce this.Furthermore, I served as an Employee Engagement Ambassador for our London office on the Employee Engagement Forum. Here, I was a point of contact for any queries or concerns staff based at our London office had. In addition, I took a keen interest in improving the intangible benefits of coming to work in our London office.

Taita Taveta, Kenya

From being a successful candidate for the VSO ICS (International Citizen Service) programme I was first tasked with fundraising £800 towards the cost of the programme. With this being achieved, I was placed in the Taita Taveta region in Kenya.I lived with a host family along with a fellow volunteer from Kenya for 3 months. I worked with an organisation called G.A.F.F.E.R to implement & facilitate the WASH United programme which focuses on ensuring children know the importance of water & sanitation hygiene. Alongside a fellow volunteer we managed to reach over 900 pupils.I was elected leader of our group of 20 volunteers by my peers & was tasked with ensuring that each volunteer achieved their goal that they had set out at the start along with chairing any meetings.In addition to my placement, I used my initiative & took on a side project of creating a website for my host family & their business to help promote the rooms & buildings that they rent out to tourists/volunteers.
