I've worked in the experience design field my entire career, with companies ranging from startups to multinationals, designing and building apps and experiences that cover the gamut from consumer to line of business, from phones to vehicles to mixed reality. My current teams focus heavily on AI.I've been very lucky to have worked with some fantastic people over the years; initially alongside them in a team; and later as a leader. It's a privilege to be trusted with growing the next generation of designers and design leaders. I owe a lasting debt of gratitude to the hard work of the people around me, those who have shown me what great craft and leadership looks like, and those who have challenged me to live up to those standards. I've been extremely fortunate to work with some of the biggest brands on the planet, including Google, Microsoft, Apple, Adobe, Spotify, Facebook, and others; in some cases designing and building their flagship apps for the Windows platforms (phone, desktop, Xbox, Hololens, etc). The thread throughout my career has been my focus on the user. I continually strive to create exceptional, equitable experiences that users love, and I always will.

Our mission was to ensure apps created by top brands sit well on the Windows Phone platform in a way that still allowed their brand to shine. The service focussed on reviewing apps at various stages of development, writing reports on their adherence to Modern Design principles, and supplying wireframes and designs with suggested improvements or redesigns. The guidelines for design were written by me and a colleague andunderwritten by the Windows Design Studio. Working as a consultancy, designers were on handto speak with any of the partners should they wish to receive more support.In order to streamline the work of the two separate teams and increase e fficiency, I created tools and processes that reduced overheads by around 80%. The service proved to be wildly successful and was a regular fixture at the Build conferences held each year in the US. As a co-design lead I also managed the growing design team of nine people, as well as stakeholder management and reporting.Following the success of the partner support services we created an app development agency within the team to build third party apps. As design lead I ran design aspects of app development activities in the department, and managed and delivered on all aspects of design from concepts for pitches, to wireframing, IA design, visual design and implementation in XAML. I have design led many high profile apps for the platform including Facebook, PayPal, and Spotify.

IFF (www.iff.com) is the largest flavour and fragrance producer in the world, producing fragrances for names like Hugo Boss, Estée Lauder, and Calvin Klein, along with household and beauty care fragrances such as Downy, Glade, and Herbal Essences. The company had an aging creative system that perfumers used to design perfumes which needed to be replaced.During the three week bid process I spent time interviewing and working with perfumers from around the business, shadowing, running focus groups, brainstorming sessions, and protocol analysis sessions to understand how perfumers work and want to work, the parts they enjoy, and those they don’t, whilst distilling them into requirements for a new system. At the end of the bid I presented a deck showing the output of my research along with some concepts for the new system to the business and creative stakeholders. Microsoft won the multi-million dollar contract on the condition that I would lead all design aspects. Throughout the development of the system UX was consistently cited as the reason for the top box customer satisfaction score awarded to the project.The new system was put into production in July 2010. -
