Through systemic analysis and an innovative approach to complex race issues, Race Forward helps people take effective action toward racial equity. Race Forward works across communities most affected by systemic racism to build collective power for racial equity and presents the biennial Facing Race conference, the country’s largest multiracial conference on racial justice.We also house the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), a network of local, regional, and state government jurisdictions across the country working to achieve racial equity in their policies and practices.

Seattle’s Race and Social Justice Initiative is a citywide effort to: * Create a community where residents and employees experience our cultural and ethnic diversity as an asset; * Eliminate institutional attitudes, practices, and policies that result in racial disproportionality; * Understand the challenges that cultural pluralism places on democracy and transform our civic and citizen engagement processes to address those challenges.

Greater Seattle Area

Worked to establish the Office of the Community Police Commission. This new office was created as a result of a settlement agreement between the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and the City of Seattle ensuring police services are delivered in a manner consistent with the Constitution of the United States. Worked with elected officials and community to establish a new office and select newly appointed 15 member Commission. Coordinated with the Mayor’s Office, Seattle Police Department, Department of Justice, and federal court appointed monitor on policy recommendations. Worked to develop policy, survey tools, and inclusive community outreach tools to support the Commission’s mission to monitor the implementation of police department reforms and provide ongoing community input to increase confidence in the Seattle Police Department.

Worked as a liaison between the City of Seattle and nonprofit organizations, neighborhood associations, and business associations in Southeast Seattle. Provided strategic advice to the Mayor on community engagement and emerging issues. Worked with City departments to develop policy and to implement City initiatives. Worked to organize multiple community and City forums.

Worked in coordination with Executive Director to raise annual fundraising budget. Developed curriculum for and performed trainings on fundraising, workforce equity and dismantling racism, and provided leadership in all organizational planning and policy development. Responsible for outreach and public relations including newsletter production, publications, and public relations events, as well as program activities including training and planning. Specific responsibilities included major donor solicitation and grant writing.

Portland, Oregon Area

Responsibilities included all aspects of foundation operations, including major donor outreach and fundraising, direct mail, and major donor and public relations events. Conducted grantee outreach, produced statewide directory for nonprofit organizations of color, participated on the grant making committee and policy development. Duties included technical assistance to grantees in grant writing and budget development. Responsible for financial oversight of organization and presenting financial reports to the board of directors.
