I'm a devoted student and passionate advocate of consumers, which is most fundamental to brand building.During the COVID-19 pandemic, brands big and small across product categories are vulnerable as they may be slow to change and too comfortable with their current skills. Many brands were already facing pressure from start-ups and established players. Long gone are the days when companies can grow by simply managing cost and driving operational efficiencies. Today’s organizational structures need to keep pace with this reality and foster foresight capabilities to infuse commercial strategies with consumer and customer empathy. Having spent most of my professional life in beer taught me a lot about people, their joys and challenges in life, and what motivates us to choose one brand over another. In studying how we celebrate, socialize and connect with each other and ourselves, I learned how to translate consumers’ needs and motivations into profitable brand building efforts. Going forward, I want to evolve those skills and build valuable intellectual property for businesses.I’m an advisor to The Marketing Accountability Standards Board, which tackles issues that sit at the intersection of Marketing, Insights and Finance.
