The Bexar County Information Technology Project Management Office (BCIT PMO) is a robust service line with 5 project managers, an additional 4 contract PMs, and an Organizational Change Management manager. On average, the BCIT PMO supports 10-15 projects at any given time with project size ranging from small 6-month engagements with budgets under $50K to very large, complex, multi-year initiatives with budgets over $20M. The PMO at Bexar County leverages both waterfall and agile approaches and uses Service Now and Microsoft Teams to track and manage all aspects of projects. PM rigor is strict and the scope, schedule, and budget for all projects is reviewed and approved by a Project Review Board. Portfolio and Program structure is driven by BCIT strategic goals set forth by the CIO and as the Head of PMO, I work with Executive Leadership to ensure these goals are met. In this role, I also mentor and support all our PMs as it is my firm belief that setting up people to succeed is a key driver for the success of a team. I often serve as an escalation point on projects and assess judicial yet creative solutions for difficult issues. Other responsibilities of this role include contract/SOW review and negotiation, contractor and vendor management, internal process improvement, organizational change management support, extensive communication management, and budget reconciliation.

The Bexar County IT Department supports 51 offices and departments and oversees all aspects of technology including custom and enterprise software, compute, network services and security, application development, quality assurance, and legacy system support. As a Senior Project manager, I worked under the direction of the CTO and CIO to implement complex IT initiatives including the relocation of the County's data center and the transformation of criminal and justice systems to cloud-based technology.I worked closely with key IT resources from the Infrastructure, Applications Development, Enterprise Business Systems, Quality Assurance, Innovation, and Business Relationship Management teams as well as numerous SMEs from the various offices and departments to coordinate and execute strategic IT projects. IBM's Cloud Advisory Services offers a portfolio of services to support client success during transition to the IBM Cloud. In support of this organization, I provided detailed management of a 12M+ budget allocated across a dozen projects and coordinated resource allocation with six delivery managers.Ensuring accurate accounting between multiple internal finance centers was a key responsibility of this role. Through detailed analysis of 1,500+ ledger transactions each month, I personally uncovered and was credited more than $600K in mis-coded charges to my team over the course of one year. Additionally, I worked closely with delivery managers to identify service providers and resources and subsequently managed all cross-organization internal contracts and agreements.

With an annual attendance of 40,000+ guests, SXSW Interactive is a technology-focused festival spanning six days every March in Austin, Texas. The festival features a wide breath of program tracks with upwards of 1,000 speaking sessions and more than 2,500 speakers. In addition to sessions, we also produced multiple trade shows and hundreds of ancillary events. Gaming, Blockchain, Fintech, MedTech, Government Policy, Social & Global Impact, Sports Technology, Entrepreneurship and Startups, Development and Coding, and Media are just some of the topics covered by the Interactive Festival.As the program manager for the Entrepreneurship & Startup track (previously called Startup Village), I reviewed more than 1,200 speaking proposals each season, and with consideration and research on current trends and forecasts in technology, I personally curated and coordinated 200+ sessions with more than 500 speakers. Additionally, I organized and coordinated more than a dozen pitch events that featured almost 60 companies. Clear and timely communication with speakers, participants and sponsors ensured accurate expectation management.With the planning phase starting a full nine months in advance, cross-department coordination was key and I worked closely with the location logistics, sales, legal, marketing, technical production, and housing teams. Attention to detail and meticulous tracking of dependencies was crucial to the seamless production of the Festival.

Paul Bernhard Exhibit Design is a creative design/build company located in Austin, Texas. In 2011, we were awarded the contract to design, fabricate and install 76 exhibits in two galleries at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas.In additional to managing all company operations including, but not limited to accounting and monthly cashflow analysis, payroll, insurance compliance, OSHA compliance, exhibit transportation, and travel logistics, I also provided project management support that covered detailed fabrication and installation schedules and budgets as well as on-site IT support.

The IBM Office of the CIO directed internal company IT security initiatives for Software Group, namely lab security. My role grew from Associate to Advisory Project Manager and the projects I managed ranged from data center relocations to the planning and implementation of firewalls across more than 150 Software Group labs around the world. The final and longest-running project I managed (4 years) was a Software Group web-based internal security management tool. In that role I was the PM for the planning, deployment and management of remote infrastructure in eleven countries and managed a core team of 6 and remote global team of 10.
