Becoming a Colleague Champion, which is a dedicated hub for our colleagues at King's Cross station means bringing together a place to collaborate, share skills and knowledge, answer any questions, and get the support our colleagues need for their day-to-day role, whether it’s one of our onboard roles such as Driver, Train Manager or Hosts to other roles within the business such as our Station Support and Travel Centre teams.

Being a Stations & On Board Experience Host means that I am responsible for making sure that our customers have a first class service, making sure that first impressions count. This role brings responsibilities such as being a leader in delivering a First Class service as well as maintaining the full Standard Class catering facilities. Being part of the catering team means there is an aspect of self-management, as well as management of others and problem solving with other members of my team. I also have extensive knowledge on operating a full service on the Hitachi Class 800 series of trains as well as our legacy fleet, InterCity 125 and InterCity 225/Mark 4.

In addition to my primary role at LNER, I became a Digital Ambassador in May 2021. This means that I assist the Digital & Innovation Team with introducing and supporting new exciting innovations and digital applications for deployment within the business. During my time within LNER, the Digital team have announced some innovative projects such as “Let’s Eat… At Your Seat”, a web application that customers can access by scanning a QR code on their smartphone and getting their order delivered to their seat. My secondary role as a Digital Ambassador also means that I work with the LNER FutureLabs programme, which also means working with start-up companies, learning more about how their products/services work and how we could integrate them for a better customer and colleague experience.The FutureLabs programme, along with the Digital Ambassador role concluded in September 2021, following a stakeholder demo day and business selection.

East Coast Main Line

I have been a founding member of LNER Safeguards, a programme within LNER that started over the Christmas and New Year periods by one of our On Train Transformation Managers, to protect vulnerable people around our railway network. Being an LNER Safeguarder meant attending a “Managing Suicidal Contacts” course, accredited by Samaritans.

Working as a customer service representative at Wilko meant serving customers using their EPOS system, replenishing stock on shelves and other management tasks such as cash management and maintaining till standards such as lottery policies, Challenge 25 procedures and maintaining a high standard of customer service. During the last month of employment here, I was the Health & Safety Representative of the store, ensuring that proper Health & Safety standards, as well as Safe Systems of Work were being met.

A volunteering (unemployed) role that has involved giving feedback and testing development builds of the Windows 10 operating system, which is powering over 1 billion devices worldwide, including PC, mobile, Xbox and IoT projects.
